ARTICLE I Name and Purpose
- The name of the organization shall be the "Bible Baptist Chapter of the National Honor Society."
- The purpose of the Chapter is to promote scholarship, service, character, citizenship and leadership in its students as they serve the school, community, and church.
ARTICLE II FACULTY COMMITTEE
- Members - The faculty committee shall consist of one chapter adviser and five Faculty Council members. They shall be appointed by the Administration and serve for one year and may be appointed to consecutive terms. No full-time administrative personnel may serve as an adviser or on the Faculty Council.
- Voting - Only the five Faculty Council members have voting privileges. All action is taken by a majority vote. The faculty adviser is a non-voting member of the council.
- Meetings - The Committee will meet at least once a year to select members and consider possible discipline or dismissal of NHS members. The Committee will meet in the Spring to select members for the local chapter. The faculty adviser, with permission from the Administration, will schedule the dates for all meetings.
ARTICLE III MEMBERSHIP IN THE NHS
- To be eligible a student must be a sophomore, junior, or senior.
- Candidates must be in attendance at the school for at least one semester and have a cumulative weighted grade point average of at least 90%.
- Students selected must fill out the Student Activity Form and return it to the school at least one week prior to the annual Faculty Council meeting.
- Eligible students are selected based on their extracurricular activities, leadership ability, community and church involvement, and work experience.
- Membership is determined by a majority vote of the Faculty Council members.
- Candidates become members when inducted at a special ceremony.
ARTICLE IV ORGANIZATION AND MEETINGS
- The chapter will meet bi-monthly beginning in September of each academic year. Special meetings may be called by the President with the approval of the faculty adviser.
- The officers of the chapter will be the President, Vice President, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, Secretary, and Assistant Secretary. Officers will be elected by a majority vote of the current membership and will serve one year terms. They may serve consecutive terms. Officers will be elected at the first scheduled meeting.
- The duties of the officers are:
- President - Preside over all meetings; with approval of the adviser, call special meetings.
- Vice President - Assume the duties of the President in his or her absence.
- Treasurer – Count and record all the money the NHS collects.
- Assistant Treasurer – Assist the treasurer.
- Secretary - Keep accurate minutes of all meetings.
- Assistant Secretary – Assume the duties of the Secretary in his or her absence.
- In the event an officer is unable to complete his or her term of office, a special election will take place. The winner will serve the unfilled term only.
- All meetings will be conducted according to the Robert's Rules of Order.
ARTICLE V MEMBERSHIP OBLIGATIONS
- Members will attend all scheduled meetings.
- Members will participate in at least one individual and one group service project per year. All group service projects must be approved by the Administration.
- Members will be considered for dismissal from the chapter if they regularly fail to attend chapter meetings, do not participate in the annual group service projects, are suspended from school, accumulate an excessive number of demerits, are in violation of the honor code, or fall below the entrance requirements. Students and their parents will be notified by mail regarding the Society's possible actions. Parents may meet with the Faculty Committee prior to its meetings.
- A student will be dismissed from the chapter if he or she is expelled from the school. Other cases will be examined on an individual basis. The Faculty Council can dismiss a student by a majority vote. Parents may appeal the decision to the School Board.
ARTICLE VI BY-LAWS
- The by-laws shall be ratified by a majority vote of the Bible Baptist School Board.
- The by-laws shall be amended by a majority vote of the Bible Baptist School Board.
