Computer Science
We believe that competency and general proficiency in the use and application of technology are required for students to reach their full potential. We believe it is essential that technological skills and their responsible use be taught, reinforced, and applied across the broader curricula. It is our belief that acquisition of such skills will help to ensure the success of students as they live, work, communicate, and adapt in a technology-based world.
Computer Science Curriculum Goals
In accordance with our philosophy of Computer Science, to develop an appreciation of the Creator and His orderly design, our students will be expected to:
- Develop speed and accuracy in keyboarding
- Know basic computer terminology and operations
- Develop and apply the following skills to Computer Science, other academic subjects and areas of life:
- a. Word Processing Application
- b. Spread Sheet Application
- c. Presentation Application
- d. Proper Internet usage in research and personal use
- e. Basic Data Base Design
Introduction to Computers
This is a one-semester course designed to give students a comprehensive knowledge of basic computing skills. Topics covered in this course are designed to prepare students for the remainder of their high school career, higher education, and the workplace. Students will gain knowledge in the use of the Internet by being able to identify different web site categories, know what web browsers are and how to use them, discover how to search the web proficiently, and how to cite web pages. In addition, students will learn the fundamentals of word processing using Microsoft Word as well as advanced long document and desktop publishing. The course will cover spreadsheet design using Microsoft Excel. Students will learn to use functions, organize data, and to create charts. Finally, students will learn to be competent in the use of slideshow presentations with Microsoft PowerPoint.
